About the Role

Are you a UK qualified solicitor with maritime experience interested in working in the beautiful city of Copenhagen?

Britannia has an excellent opportunity for a Claims Handler to join us a Fleet Manager handling both P&I and FD&D claims. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who is passionate about maritime insurance and will thrive as part of a small and friendly team.

Your Responsibilities

The role holder will have responsibility for handling allocated Freight, Demurrage and Defence and Protection & Indemnity claims in accordance with the Claims Department’s manual and guidelines.

You will provide an exceptional claims service to the Club’s Members within designated authority levels including:

  • assessing risk and liability through collecting, analysing and assimilating information.
  • providing advice or recommendations to Members, on claims handling strategy to resolve the claim in the most cost effective and expedient manner.
  • raising estimates, processing payments and reimbursements and liaising with the appointed Divisional Director assigned to a geographical region.
  • maintaining regular reviews of claims and estimates strictly in accordance with the Club’s requirements.
  • maintaining an appropriate diary review in respect of time bars and key dates.
  • assessing whether cases are covered and should be supported, monitoring likely costs, requesting budgetary support and, in the event of any issue/s arising, liaising with Divisional Director.
  • document management and administration of electronic files to ensure ready accessibility in accordance with the Club’s requirements.
  • contractual review (service agreements, towage contracts, rail sub-contracts, conditions of Use agreements etc.).
  • participation in both internal and external training seminars and programmes as required.
  • attending internal meetings with lawyers, correspondents, surveyors and experts as appropriate.

About You

You will enjoy working on a variety of claims as part of a small team. The role holder will have experience working on FD&D claims gained from a P&I club, insurer, law firm, ship owner or ship agent.  You will be legally qualified in the UK with a minimum of 3 years PQE.

Underwriting Assistant Analyst

About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an Underwriting Assistant Analyst to join Britannia’s Underwriting Team.  In this role, you will work collaboratively in a small team to provide analytical and statistical administrative support to the Underwriting Department.  The role will suit someone who is proficient with data, highly numerate and comfortable working with systems. This is a varied role which provides a great opportunity to apply analytical skills and develop a career within the insurance industry.

The role reports to the Chief Underwriting Officer.

Your Responsibilities

  • Support the Department’s modelling and quotation work utilising MS Excel
  • Extract and take ownership of relevant data for the Underwriting team and analytical projects
  • Support the annual budgeting and reconciliation processes
  • Produce reports and presentations to assist the underwriting team with business development
  • Develop underwriting processes and reports within the IT system.
  • Work closely with the Actuarial Department on the production of data.
  • Support other departments (e.g. Claims, Finance, Loss Prevention) with underwriting data as required
  • Assist with the development of the Britannia Member Portal (a client facing website which allows Members to access all of their documentation, claims data and reports online).
  • Support, maintain, and improve underwriting records.
  • Assist the reinsurance function of the Underwriting team
  • Ad hoc duties as required

About You

Knowledge/Experience

  • 1-2 years of analytical experience or ability to demonstrate analytical skills through relevant degree / A-level study

Qualifications/Education

  • Degree or A level qualification (preferably a maths discipline)

Skills

  • Computer literate and familiar with all MS Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc)
  • Highly Proficient in MS Excel

The role is responsible for reviewing architects’ appointment and other ancillary documents, negotiating amendments and working closely with Members of Wren. You will also attend meetings with and give presentations to Members to explain coverage issues.

Candidates will have experience of non-contentious construction law, preferably gained from within a law firm or other inhouse legal teams and will be familiar with professional indemnity matters relating to construction professionals. You will be legally qualified in the UK or QLTT.

The role

The Claims Manager is responsible for liaising with Members in respect of claims, handling of professional indemnity claims against construction professionals. You will be attending meetings, mediations, hearings etc with Members and solicitors as well as providing liability advice to members. You will be joining a team of 17 solicitors and legal executives. Together you will assist Wren’s Members to be appointed on terms falling within their cover and handle any resulting claims.

Main duties will include:

  • Handling claims and reporting to claims directors/Legal Affairs Director
  • Liaison with Members in respect of claims.
  • Claims reserving in line with the Wren Procedures Manual.
  • Regular re-estimation of claims.
  • Identifying issues of coverage/late notification for consideration with claims directors/Legal Affairs Director.
  • Attending meetings, mediations, hearings etc with Members and solicitors.
  • Providing liability advice to Members
  • Instructing and managing the input of external legal and expert advisers engaged on claims

Experience required

Candidates will have preferably gained experience from within a law firm or other inhouse legal teams and will be familiar with professional indemnity matters relating to construction professionals. From an early stage, you will be able to manage active claims. You will be legally qualified in the UK or QLTT with a minimum of 5 years PQE.
